DAY 01 :  Managua


Upon arrival in Managua International Airport, take a short transfer with the shuttle bus to your Hotel, located close by. Overnight at Hotel Camino Real in Managua


DAY 02: Managua - City Tour / Leon 


After breakfast we will drive to Loma de Tiscapa, a small volcanic hill where Somoza's presidential house was situated and from where you can enjoy excellent views of Managua. Afterwards we will drive along Lake Managua towards the ruins of Leon Viejo, first capital of Nicaragua. Then we will drive to the Pacific Coast and will embark for a boat tour into the Reserve of Juan Venado, famous for its mangroves and wildlife. At Las Penitas, on the way back to the cultural town Leon, we will admire a beautiful sunset (weather permitting). Overnight at Hotel Austria in Leon


DAY 03: Leon / Masaya / Granada


This morning, we will visit the old Cathedral La Asuncion, considered the largest in Central America, which shelters the remains of Nicaragua's greatest poet Ruben Dario. Then we will visit the archive-museum house of Ruben Dario as well as the Ortiz-Gurdian Art Museum which contains an impressive collection of European and Latin American art. As we walk through the city we still can see some of the old revolutionary murals painted during the civil war. In the afternoon, we will travel 25 kilometers east from Leon until we will reach to the base of Cerro Negro, regarded as the youngest volcano in Central America. This fascinating hiking trail will take us to the summit of this black hill and enjoy impressive view over the Maribios volcanic chain. After descending on the sandy slopes of the volcano we drive back to Leon. Overnight at Hotel Austria in Leon


DAY 04:  Granada


After breakfast we will drive to San Jacinto Hot Springs, a unique phenomenon of this volcanic region where internal vents eject hot gases, water and mud. Afterwards we will drive to the north central region of Esteli, known for its top quality cigars. As we drive we will have the chance to pass by tobacco fields and then visit one of the many cigar factories in this area. Here we will learn about the process of selecting the best tobacco leaves, drying, rolling and packing. Then we will drive to the highlands of Matagalpa, also known as the coffee hub. After taking our rooms at Selva Negra Lodge, we will go for a nature walk into the primary tropical forest to explore the lush vegetation and try to discover the elusive birdlife of the region. DAY 05:  Granada


This morning after breakfast we will drive through the Selva Negra farm to learn very important facts about its sustainability, coffee and cheese production, cattle and pig raising, social projects, environmental protection and treatment of animal waste. Afterwards, we will drive to Matagalpa and visit a small chocolate factory producing 100% Nicaraguan chocolate. Here you will learn about the history of the cocoa bean, varieties, roasting and grinding and mixing. Then we will descend to the pacific lowlands until reaching Masaya Volcano National Park. Here you will have the chance to observe ancient lava flows, outstanding landscapes, and bat caves. After dark we will drive to the town Masaya and enjoy a folkloric event while we take our typical dinner. We will then drive to Granada, the country's most charming colonial city. DAY 06:  Granada


Today we will begin with a city tour of the oldest colonial settlement in the Americas. We will visit the historical San Francisco Convent, which houses the local museum of Granada and displays the most important pre-Hispanic totem collection in Nicaragua. In the historical center we will the Bishop Palace, Cathedral, Palace of Culture, City Hall and other remarkable monuments. Then we will drive to Pueblos Blancos, where we will visit the colorful town of San Juan de Oriente, renowned by its high quality pottery. Afterwards we will drive to a view point where we can enjoy breathtaking views of Apoyo Lake, known as the largest and deepest volcanic Crater Lake in the country. After we will head to Masaya's market where you can find a wide variety of fine quality handmade products such as hammocks, shoes, wallets, jewelry, clothes, etc… Afterwards we will embark on a natural excursion in Lake Nicaragua, where we will see some of the volcanic islands, popularly known as Las Isletas. Overnight at Patio Del Malinche Hotel in Granada


DAY 07:  Granada


After breakfast we will drive south, passing by several sugarcane and rice fields, as well as banana plantations, papaya, water melon and passion fruit. Then we will reach the small town of San Jorge where we take the ferry to navigate to the volcanic island of Ometepe. Departing from Moyogalpa, one of the two main towns of the Island, we drive around the active volcano of Concepcion to visit Charco Verde, known for its dark green lake, lush surrounding vegetation, birdlife and howler monkeys. Then we will continue on to Playa Santo Domingo. Overnight at Villa Paraiso Hotel in Ometepe


DAY 08:  Granada


This morning we leave the hotel and drive back to Moyogalpa to take the ferry to San Jorge. Then we will head to Managua(or La Fortuna in Costa Rica, for an extension).
